PureRust Airfield Guide for 2026

A PureRust PvE guide to running Airfield in Rust 2026, covering preparation, loot routes, cards, fuses, recyclers, and safe monument progression.

Airfield is one of my favourite monuments to recommend to PureRust players because it rewards calm preparation, clean routing, and a little bit of confidence. It is large enough to feel like a real expedition, but once you understand the layout, it becomes one of the most reliable places to gather components, recycle, collect useful loot, and move your progression forward on either of our two Rust servers.

In 2026, Rust feels busier and broader than ever. The world keeps growing, systems keep changing, and progression now asks you to think a little more carefully about where you go and what you bring home. Airfield fits beautifully into that rhythm. It is not just a place to wander through and grab a few barrels. It is a proper monument run, with surface loot, underground access, card rooms, recyclers, a repair bench, an oil refinery, scientists, puzzle loot, and a route that feels satisfying once it clicks.

Before you leave base, prepare properly. I like to bring a Green Card, a Blue Card, two Electric Fuses, a little radiation protection, healing, food, water, a dependable weapon for scientists, and enough inventory space to make the trip worthwhile. A Hazmat Suit is comfortable if you have one, but you do not need to overpack. Airfield is lightly irradiated compared with the harsher monuments, so sensible clothing and basic protection are usually enough for the outer areas. What matters most is that you bring the cards and fuses, because forgetting one piece turns a proper run into a sightseeing walk.

If you do not have the cards yet, build up to Airfield through smaller stops first. A Green Card can be gathered from easier monuments, and a Blue Card can be earned through a Green Card puzzle or bought at Outpost when that suits your wipe plan. I always tell newer PureRust players to treat Airfield as the next step after they feel comfortable with roads, basic monuments, and recycling. Once you can arrive prepared, Airfield becomes much less intimidating.

When you reach the monument, take a moment to orient yourself. Airfield is wide and flat, with runways, hangars, watch towers, a helipad, an office building with the air traffic control tower, fuel areas, underground tunnel entrances, and several smaller structures. Do not rush straight into the puzzle unless that is your only goal. The outer route is worth checking first, especially if you are still building up components. The runways and outskirts can hold barrels, food crates, and general loot. The hangars often provide useful crates and barrels, and the office building is worth visiting because it gives you access to utility stations that can turn a full inventory into compact value.

The recycler in the middle hangar is one of the reasons Airfield is so useful for PureRust players. A second recycler can also be found in the office building, alongside a repair bench and oil refinery. That means you can arrive with a light kit, collect across the monument, recycle components before you leave, and head home with scrap and higher value materials instead of a cluttered inventory. On a calm community server, this makes Airfield a wonderful mid-wipe habit. Run it neatly, recycle what you do not need, and bring the good materials back to your base or village project.

For the puzzle, start at the main building area. Enter through the garage or front.

Front

Find the room with the first fuse box.

Fusebox

Place your first Electric Fuse, activate the timer, then move to the tunnel entrance. When facing the hangars, head down and take the route to the left.

Tunnel Entrance

You are looking for the Green Card door first. Swipe the Green Card, move through, and find the second fuse box.

Fusebox2

Place your second Electric Fuse there. Once that is powered, return toward the Blue Card door near the Green Card area, swipe the Blue Card, and enter the main loot room.

Blue Card

Inside, expect a much better reward than the surface route. The Blue Card section can contain several crates, useful components, and progression items such as a Red Card and blueprint fragments depending on the current wipe and loot state.

Free Loot

This is the moment that makes Airfield feel worth the preparation. Loot cleanly, keep an eye on your health, and do not forget to check corners and connected spaces before leaving. Scientists can be part of the Airfield puzzle experience, so move with patience rather than sprinting blindly into every doorway.

One important 2026 habit is to avoid lingering around puzzle rooms after you have finished looting. Rust’s newer monument refresh behaviour means puzzle areas are not something you should treat as a place to idle. Once the loot has been taken, the monument’s reset cycle matters, and dangerous radiation can appear around puzzle rooms and related switches before refresh. On PureRust, the best approach is simple and respectful: complete the puzzle, gather your loot, recycle if you need to, and move on so the monument can cycle naturally for the next adventurer.

A good Airfield route feels like a loop. I usually begin with the outer barrels and easy crates, pass through the hangars, recycle once if my inventory fills early, check the office building, then commit to the card puzzle when I know I have enough space. After the Blue Card room, I decide whether to recycle again or head home. If I have found a Red Card, I treat that as the start of the next chapter of the wipe rather than something to waste casually. Airfield is often the bridge between early comfort and bigger monument confidence.

For solo PvE players, Airfield is best approached with patience. Bring only what you can afford to lose to scientists, radiation, or a simple mistake. Mark the tunnel entrance in your memory, learn which hangar has the recycler, and practice the fuse route until it feels natural. For duos or groups, divide the jobs gently. One person can handle the fuse timing, another can clear scientists, and someone can keep the route organized so nothing gets left behind. PureRust is at its best when players help each other learn, and Airfield is a perfect teaching monument.

Because PureRust is a community built around relaxed PvE survival, please treat Airfield as a shared resource across both servers. Take what you came for, recycle cleanly, close doors where it helps the next person understand the route, and be kind if another player is learning the puzzle. A good monument run is not only about loot. It is about making the world feel alive, cooperative, and welcoming.

Once you know it, Airfield becomes one of the most dependable monuments in Rust. It gives you scrap, components, cards, utility stations, puzzle practice, and a satisfying sense of progression without needing to leave the mainland. Bring your fuses, bring your cards, respect the reset, and enjoy the run.

I will see you out there.
